what’s actually happening is that the ogg vorbis software that is embedded in firefox is causing some unwanted pauses in the video stream. those unwanted pauses are being caused by the fact that firefox is still talking tcp/ip, but since the connection is broken (i.e. it’s already ended or failed) before firefox knows it’s video has ended, it checks to make sure everything is still online with a connection check that pauses the video. let’s rewrite the code to change how firefox detects when the video ends so that firefox can detect the video has ended before it attempts to check if it has a tcp connection.

once video is detected as having paused, the ogg vorbis software should detect this and send a data packet to firefox. firefox will then reload or ask you to refresh the page and the video should continue streaming. unfortunately, ogg vorbis is difficult to detect if you’re using real time streaming protocol (rtsp).

i have created an open source library that will detect when the rtsp connection is done and drop any video that’s paused (instead of retrying to re-establish the connection). currently, the library listens for the end of the rtsp connection on port 8554. if the connection is still active after a time-out period, or if the client that is trying to receive the stream requests a refresh of the web page with an f5 key, the library will automatically close the video stream so that the video on-screen won’t reload. a very simple example of how to use this library can be found here..

on android, you should see a new item in the list of known devices, that you can use to turn on rtsp support for that android device. on the pc, in the developer console, under the web console tab, you should see “rtsp/h.264” to turn on rtsp/h.264 support for your webrtc app. you’ll also need to make sure you have the latest chrome device policy extension for your device.
