I’m trying to write a program that counts how many occurences of any character in a string, i.e. it will count how many E, R, F, and L there are in the string. The problem is I am getting a segmentation fault (core dumped).

The code is:

And the problem is with the loop in the end of the program. It should keep looping until ‘E’ is found, and count how many occurences of any character in a string were found.
The issue: I am getting a segmentation fault (core dumped).

The segmentation fault (core dumped) occurs in this loop:
while(*(str+count)!= *j) {
count++;
}

you are incrementing count each loop and not checking what your variables are. (str is a char array)
In addition to that, you should not cast the malloc return from NULL.
Edit: In addition to malloc return, you are trying to access a pointer that is outside of the bounds of your allocated space.
