1. What is Photoshop?
Adobe Photoshop is an image editing program that is the industry standard. It started out as a freeware product called Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 1.0, released in 1995.
Users could create and edit photographs, art, and even comic book pages. The applications were aimed primarily at professionals or people who have a need for high-end image editing.
It was heavily advertised through print and broadcast advertising, with lots of hype on the “serve-and-share” model of creating a JPEG image from a source document.
The developer of Photoshop, Adobe Systems, released version 1.0 of the product on November 1, 1995.
This was the beginning of what became a global phenomenon. Since that time Photoshop has become one of the most highly-respected products in the industry.
It is the de facto standard for digital image editing on the web.
One of the most popular features of Photoshop is the use of layers. As image editing becomes more and more complicated, we found it necessary to divide the image into different layers. Layers allow a single image file to be composed of multiple layers.
Photoshop allows you to add a background layer, a layer for adjustments to the image, and then a layer for the subject of the image.
That’s three layers in Photoshop.
The idea of layers was first put into use with printing and published books in the early 1980s.
Early applications allowed layers to be stacked on top of each other to produce multi-page documents.
Since then we have used layers in nearly every application on the computer. Adobe Photoshop is the latest version of the idea.
Photoshop has evolved into the standard in the industry for over a decade now, but it’s not the only image-editing software on the market.
In fact, there are several other quality professional-quality image-editing applications on the market today, including Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Elements.
2. Start Photoshop
Creating or opening an image in Photoshop is very simple.
First, open your image. An image can be opened from the desktop screen or from a disk file.
After the image opens, you’ll see a blank canvas. That’s right: A blank canvas!
Now comes the fun part.
The canvas is the blank canvas you need to start your creativity.
Now you’ll start to add layers

If you have a water-based project, we want to help you
The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Web site for Inland Waterways Access (IWA) states: “For the public to safely use an inland waterway, vessels must meet minimum navigation requirements that vary by the class of the vessel.”
To find out more about what is required of vessels travelling in BC’s inland waters, simply go to the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure site, which has information on all of BC’s inland waters and their regulations (search for “Inland Waterways” in the menu at the top of the page).
You may not be able to get the licence needed to travel in an area if it requires a mooring, landing or a specific type of boat licence.
How to get an inland waterway licence:
If you are not already subject to the requirements of an inland waterway licence, you may need to apply for one.
Your application, costs and fees can be found here:
If you are a commercial or personal watercraft operator, you may also need to apply for a license. Contact your local marina or district for more information.
A vessel must be moored when not in use. If it is not mooring at all times, you are still required to keep it on station at all times, and be able to respond to signals from a vessel on station at all times.
There is some flexibility in the application. Once a vessel is used within 24 hours, it is required to be docked.
Reasonable steps are being taken to ensure that the vessel is kept stable in adverse weather conditions, which may include the use of stabilizers or a mooring which is moored to a structure such as a pier or buoy.
If the mooring is attached to the vessel itself, it must be braced.
The vessel must not infringe on the crew of another vessel, or be so near to the crew of another vessel as to cause danger to them or inconvenience to them.
A vessel must be moored when not in use to a safety zone, to a buoy or marker or

The paint brush allows you to paint freely. Try using many different colors to create images for the web.
In Figure 1, I’ve used the paint brush to create a pattern for an illusion. The brush settings were chosen in the Brushes palette (Figure 2). If you look closely, you’ll see that the Paint Brush tool actually is a combination of two tools: the Paper Brush tool, which allows you to paint on a new canvas by dragging with the tool, and the Paint Brush tool itself, which allows you to paint onto an image or canvas.
The following are additional brushes:
To create an item in which the brush strokes are visible, use the WATER FORMAT brush. Select this brush by clicking on the Brush Controls panel, and clicking on the bottom-rightmost button. Now you can paint any color of water.

# The pen tool
The Photoshop pen tool allows you to hand draw a vector line, or path, on an image or canvas. The line can then be imported into Photoshop and used to create various effects.
– (Photoshop CS5) You can use different colors for the path, including solid lines and gradients.
– (Photoshop CS6) The pen tool in Photoshop CS6 has a nondeformable pen. By default, you’ll find a variety of presets and tools to create paths. Also, you can use the move tool to create paths.
