The last decade has seen the rise of community-created software tools that are considerably easier to use than Photoshop yet can achieve good effects. These are increasingly used by professional photographers to edit their images. Examples include:
How does Photoshop work
Traditionally, most software (such as Windows) uses a graphical user interface to allow people to easily navigate through the program and to search for files.
Here is how Photoshop works:
You open the software and select a tool by using the keyboard or the mouse. A tool is a piece of software which changes the way Photoshop is displayed. The tools available in Photoshop include the pen tool, the selector, the brush tool, the lasso tool, the eraser, the marquee tool, the clone tool, the healing tool, the fix tool, and the layer, all of which are explained in the rest of this tutorial.
Each tool works differently and does something different.
You click on objects to select them. You use a two-dimensional tool to select and move around on objects, or you use a three-dimensional tool to select and move around the objects. You can click and drag around images, so you can move an image around by dragging the mouse and resizing the image as you drag. You can select the Brush tool and click to erase parts of an image. You can use the Selection tool to select objects. You can use the marquee tool to highlight everything on screen. You can use the Pen tool to draw or annotate. You can use the Crop tool to crop an image. You can use the Filters tool to apply different filters to the image.
You work on images in various ways using the tools.
You can press the CTRL key to invoke different tools. If you press the ALT key, you can change what you’re doing. For example, you can change how you select an image by using a selection tool, which allows you to click on objects and activate the selection tool.
Common Photoshop tools
The pen tool
The pen tool is a tool used for picking objects in an image.
The pen tool can help you move around an image. You click on an object and draw a path. You can place markers in the path and release the mouse. Photoshop will automatically remove the markers as you draw the path, and the path will follow whatever the mouse moves.
You can use the pen tool to trace graphics, paint, draw, highlight, create freehand shapes, and create geometric shapes.
You can use the pen tool to fill areas on an image with a specific color and then use the paintbrush to paint over those areas.

The presence of tumour antigens causes a higher antigen presentation capability of dendritic cells \[[@B8],[@B9]\]. The amount of antigen presenting cells is critically important for the induction of antigen-specific Th1 cells in tumour immunity \[[@B10]\]. Thus, the cellular immunity modulating capability of Nios II is suggested to be associated with its more potent DC maturation capability.
In contrast, it is also suggested that the contact between DCs and cancer cells induces tumour-specific tolerance or activation of suppressive DCs for the induction of tumour-specific tolerance \[[@B11]\]. Thus, the DC maturation inducing capability of Nios II may counteract the suppressive function of DCs induced by contact with cancer cells.
In addition to all these, Nios II is a TLR2/1 agonist \[[@B5],[@B6]\], and TLR2/1 is known to enhance the maturation of DCs by enhancing IL-1β and IL-6 production \[[@B4]\]. Furthermore, TLR2/1 also enhances IL-12 and IL-27 production \[[@B12]\]. Thus, Nios II may enhance the maturation of DCs by increasing IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12 and IL-27 production.
We demonstrated that Nios II causes maturation of BMDCs and macrophages and stimulates T cell immunity in a murine DTH model, and the cellular immunity enhancing capability of Nios II is through the enhancement of DC maturation. Thus, Nios II may be a useful adjuvant for the delivery of cancer vaccine.

The Healing Brush allows you to easily remove objects such as hair, spots, or other unwanted elements from a picture. It replaces them with other pixels of the same color.
The Gradient Tool allows you to change the color of an object in multiple directions. This is helpful when creating bevels on objects.
The Pen Tool allows you to create complicated designs by drawing lines, curves, and shapes.
The Straighten Tool is used for aligning objects with the horizon, making things more consistent when they’re tilted.
The Transform > Warp tools are useful for correcting perspective and other distortions in an image. They are often used when combining images or working with a pixel camera. They can also be used to bend objects in unusual ways.
The Wave Tool lets you make complex shapes and textures.
The Spot Healing Brush can quickly eliminate small blemishes on a photograph.
The Eraser Tool allows you to erase unwanted objects such as backgrounds, hair, wrinkles, and other types of things.
Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 has a new Tool Bar with a set of new features:
The Custom Menu option allows you to customize the Photoshop tools from the menus at the top left corner of the screen.
The New Paths panel allows you to create new paths in a painting style.
The Image panel allows you to work with layers, annotations, the perspective grid, keyboard shortcuts, and much more.
One of the most basic features of Photoshop is the ability to work on multiple images in one document. This means there are two types of layers: regular and smart layers. The first type is used for the image itself, and the latter is used to organize elements within the image.
A layer is a transparency mask of the image that you can re-arrange, move, make visible or hidden, or even remove. It is similar to a drawing in a sheet of paper. As you move the layer, a transparent image is automatically updated in the current document. A semi-transparent layer can be combined with other layers to work on its different parts.
Layers can contain additional layers of their own, which can contain other layers, and so on. This is called a nested layer system. When working with nested layers, it is often easier to work with the layer below the uppermost one to avoid disrupting the layer directly above.
A smart layer contains all the information about where it came from, such as
