Hipster Dating

The Internet may be the best (and worst) place to find a romantic partner. Sites like Match.com, PlentyOfFish.com, OkCupid.com, eHarmony.com, even YouTube and Craigslist can help you find a girl or guy to hook up with if you know where to look. However, that might not be enough if you’re looking for a serious relationship, according to a new study conducted by researchers at the University of New Hampshire.

The researchers examined the messages sent on OkCupid.com and asked users about their reasons for choosing to meet someone in person. They found that men and women who only started emailing and chatting via the site did so primarily for fun and convenience. However, users who wanted a long-term relationship were likely to have “acquaintance goals,” such as matching one another to friends, rather than relationship goals such as meeting someone to have a relationship with.

Why Pick Up Girls?

Back in 2011, the data-gathering site OkCupid.com reported that around 44 percent of its users were seeking a relationship. That figure has more than doubled in the four years since. It’s one of the highest figures among online dating sites according to the Pew Internet Research Center. So why are so many people seeking love online? Well, for one thing, lots of people are on the site: 10.3 percent of American adults go on OkCupid at least once per month. Many people use it to meet new people for fun or to help them figure out who they are dating. However, more people are using the site for romance.

Why do so many people use it for romance? Researchers at New York University found that while there is still a stigma about using an online dating site for dating, OkCupid users believe that dating sites are a safe way to meet people (you do at least have to fill out a profile, unlike Craigslist, where you don’t). For example, OkCupid users are 30 percent less likely to be attacked on the site than users of other sites like Match.com, which does require a profile, according to the authors of the study.

More Than Just Meeting People Online

OkCupid is a great place to meet people, but that’s not all it’s good for. According to OkCupid co-founder Christian Rudder, the site has become a cultural force over the last few years: https://elove-matchmaking.com/how-to-meet-escort-girls-online-best-adult-dating-in-2022.shtml
