Photoshop Elements is an image manipulation program for Elements, a lesser known photo management program that just might work for you if you prefer not to start from scratch with Photoshop. The program includes basic features for editing, but it lacks the advanced options found in Photoshop.

Photoshop isn’t always the right tool for the job. Sometimes, you can produce good results without using Photoshop. The key is to understand the basics so you know when Photoshop is required.

When you’re not sure whether you need Photoshop, click the button shown in the margin to display the Photoshop Quick Tour. You can use that as a roadmap to get a quick overview of Photoshop’s many features.

And for advice on getting the most out of Photoshop, check out the Photoshop Techniques tutorials on your Help menu.

If you can’t afford the time or the money, a new Photoshop tutorial is available online at www.tutorialforall.com, where you can see dozens of free tutorials for Photoshop.

Importing and Exporting images

Photoshop lets you import your own images, as well as import bitmap graphics and photos from your computer, from another program, or from a scanner. After you select the image(s), you can import it into the background or the foreground and, if you choose, into a new layer. You can then make adjustments to the imported images, such as cropping, resizing, or adjusting the color of the image or even the color palette.

You can export images from Photoshop in several ways. You can print them, publish them online, or print them directly onto your computer’s hardware. You can even save them in other applications and share them as an email attachment.

Importing Images

Photoshop offers two ways to load images into Photoshop: from its graphics or from other applications.

Importing from Other Applications

You can select an image on your computer’s monitor and drag and drop it directly onto the background of the file. You can also select an image in another application and drag and drop it onto the background of the Photoshop file.

If you’re working in a browser, you can right-click the image and choose Open Image in Photoshop from the menu, or you can double-click the image. Your browser’s image viewer opens, and it displays the image, as shown in Figure 13-1. You don’t have to worry about the image type — Photoshop automatically detects the type of image.

You have several options for

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create various animated GIF’s and WebP (newer image file format) images with Photoshop Elements. We’ll be using some of the features that are very important to create animations and WebP images.

First, let’s take a look at the existing layers inside the Photoshop Elements 2019 14.3 or later.

You can create a new layer by simply clicking on the Layers panel on the right side. Click on the Layers panel and drag-and-drop the layers into a new file.

You can edit multiple layers and view them at the same time. You can use the layers panel to turn layers on and off.

You can apply multiple filters to the layer. You can turn them off by clicking on them once or twice, or right-click on them and select Hide.

You can view the active and inactive filter settings.

The Layers panel provides a quick view of the active and inactive filter settings for the layer. You can access the Layers panel by clicking on the Layers panel in the toolbar.

You can make a new layer and drag-and-drop the layers from the Layers panel to this new layer. You can change the opacity of individual layers. You can set a layer to multiply or overlay the layer by clicking on the layer once or twice. You can hide a layer by clicking on it once or twice or clicking on the Hide menu. You can activate a layer by clicking on it once. Once activated, the changes are applied immediately to the layer.

You can activate a particular filter by clicking on the Filter section in the panel. You can find the Filter section in the panel by clicking on the Edit tab.

The Filter section has a lot of filters and it can be a bit overwhelming. I would suggest using the Quick Filter dialog box for filters for the time being.

The Quick Filter dialog box is really useful when working with layers or individual pixels, which is where we’ll be focusing our attention in this tutorial.

If you’re new to Photoshop elements, you can click on the Quick Filter dialog box by clicking on the Edit tab and then clicking on the Filter icon.

This dialog box allows you to access any filter and create your own filter or edit a filter that is already created. You’ll notice there is a Filter drop-down box with an assortment of filters available. You can select one or multiple filters and apply them

Photoshop’s Gradient tool allows you to create gradient fills and patterns. After creating a gradient, you can then place it on an image using a variety of tools.
Text tools are used to create text. They let you easily change font and size.

Here we’ll take a look at many of the most popular tools and their features.
Using a Photoshop brush
There are many things that can be done in Photoshop using a brush. They are particularly useful for painting, drawing, and retouching images.
To create a brush, click the Brush tool and click on the Brush Tool Options. In the dialog box, look through the list of possible brushes and select one that looks like the one you want.
To use a brush, drag it over the image. Using Photoshop’s live preview, you can see the effect of the brush on the image.
You can also click on the color box to the right of the Brush tool and change its color.
You can also use the Brush Settings dialog box to adjust the size and shape of the brush.
Creating a Gradient
Photoshop has many Gradient tools, including the Gradient Fill, Gradient Overlay, and Gradient Descendant. You use these to create gradient fills or patterns in your images.
The Gradient Fill tool is the simplest way to create a gradient. It lets you create a radial or a linear gradient. You can use it to create smooth, subtle gradients, or you can use it to create a solid color with an easily defined border.
You can click on the color box to the right of the Gradient Fill tool to change its color, or you can use the options box to select one of the listed colors.
You can also adjust the thickness, angle and location of the gradient by clicking on the gradient box or using the options box.
You can also use a blending mode for the gradient. This lets you combine the colors of two images to create a new image. The default mode is Overlay, which is basically the same as Multiply.
Using Text
Photoshop has many tools for you to edit text. You can click on the text tool and then click on the Options box to add a new font.
You can change the typeface and size of the font by clicking in the text box and then using the options box. You can change the color of the text by clicking on the text box and then using the options box.
You can use the Text

Find the Partial Derivative of $f(x,y) = \int_{\arcsin x}^{\arcsin(1+x)} \int_{\sin y}^{\sin(1+y)} \sin(1+u) \cos u\ du\ dy$

Find the Partial Derivative of $f(x,y) = \int_{\arcsin x}^{\arcsin(1+x)} \int_{\sin y}^{\sin(1+y)} \sin(1+u) \cos u\ du\ dy$
Is it $\frac{\partial}{\partial y}f(x,y)=\frac{\partial}{\partial x}f(x,y) = \sin(1+y)\cos(1+y)$
And if so, is there a way to calculate the total derivative of a function using the chain rule and the partial derivative that I found?

You have
$$\frac{\partial f}{\partial x}(x,y) = \sin(1+y)\cos u – \sin u\cos(1+y) \\
\frac{\partial f}{\partial y}(x,y) = \sin(1+x)\cos u – \sin u\cos(1+x).$$
$$\frac{\partial f}{\partial x} + \frac{\partial f}{\partial y} = \sin u \cos(1+x)\cos(1+y) + \sin(1+x)\cos u \cos(1+y) + \sin(1+y)\cos u \cos x + \sin u\cos(1+x)\cos(1+y).$$
At this point it is easier to notice that the last term above is zero, and the remaining terms are equal to $\sin(1+x+y)$. That shows the partial derivatives are $\frac{\partial f}{\partial x} = \sin(1+x+y)$ and $\frac{\partial f}{\partial y} = \sin(1+x+y)$.
