Now, as 2013 draws to a close, the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) at Carnegie Mellon University has turned its attention to the two other kinds of CAD applications—online and cloud—which are poised to invade the workflow of CAD operators. HCIL released a new mobile app and an online access tool (Appropriate), both built to extend the capabilities of the AutoCAD platform.
(AutoCAD turns 25 in 2013)
At the center of the HCIL strategy is a new design tool that HCIL co-founder and CMU professor Eric Simonoff calls a “task-management app” for mobile computing. The Appropriate tool is intended for two types of users—those who work with AutoCAD on a desktop in the office and those who take AutoCAD on the road. In many respects, the Appropriate app serves as the AutoCAD counterpart to the Adobe Photoshop Mobile app, which offers a mobile workflow for Photoshop users.
“We had this idea that what would be really useful in AutoCAD would be a hybrid app that would take advantage of some of the techniques that mobile users are very familiar with,” said Simonoff. “You’re used to being able to make your files available to you anywhere you are. You’re used to having a quick view of your files, to rearranging and moving files, just as you would on a desktop. So we thought we’d apply those techniques to AutoCAD and let people make sense of their file wherever they are.”
The Appropriate app is one of the first application created with Simonoff’s notion of the “task-management app.” By incorporating the mobile interfaces from the App Store, he has applied the familiar features of these mobile apps—like drag-and-drop file management and quick-look viewing—to AutoCAD. “But the reason we made this app a hybrid app is that we wanted to take the user experience even further,” said Simonoff. “I wanted to make it really easy for users to work with their CAD file on their mobile device and take advantage of this hybrid of desktop and mobile interface.”
“We have a cadence of using the touchscreen,” said Simonoff, noting that designers using a mobile device often manipulate their design files on a touchscreen, even though a mouse and
The Interactive Tutorial Tool (ITT) can be used as a tool to guide users through the entire program. The ITT only runs inside AutoCAD Free Download. In the Microsoft Windows environment, Autodesk offers a version of AutoCAD that is integrated with the Microsoft Windows operating system and thus allows the user to more easily automate software tasks. Autodesk Revit also integrates with the Windows platform.
Open Source Solution Project (OSSP) is a program to develop and to execute the OSSP-X extension for AutoCAD and 2010, allowing users to enter OSSP-X commands. It is implemented in C++.
There are a large number of add-ons available, most of which are also available for free from Autodesk’s application store Autodesk Exchange Apps. Autodesk Exchange Apps is a store of 3rd party AutoCAD add-ons and extensions developed by Autodesk. Many of the add-ons work in conjunction with each other, and most are compatible with previous versions of AutoCAD.
Extensions that can be found on Autodesk Exchange Apps include:
History List (history list) – lists all history items, including drawing entries and customization changes.
History Viewer (history viewer) – displays a scrollable list of history items, including a drawing entry or customization change.
AutoCAD DYMES (dymes) – generates DYMES reports that compare the appearance and functionality of an individual drawing with all drawings in a repository.
AutoCAD DYMES (dynames) – generates DYNAMICS reports that compare the appearance and functionality of an individual drawing with all drawings in a repository.
AutoCAD IPF Viewer (ipfviewer) – opens an Autodesk IPF file in AutoCAD.
Image to PDF (imagetodpdf) – converts images to PDF documents.
Multiple Sheets (multisheets) – automates creating multiple copies of one drawing using selection, offsets and text objects.
Multilevel Security (multisec) – compares current drawing security settings with stored settings for selected drawings.
Opinions (opinions) – displays opinions about drawing issues and user preferences.
Print Layout (printlayout) – prints a drawing or selected views into a specified paper format.
Rules (rules) – allows a user to create rules from lists of data that represent drawing or drawing components.
AutoCAD can be used on many operating systems, including:
Apple OS X, Windows, Linux
AutoCAD can also be used in a mobile environment. Windows Phone 7, and its successor Windows Phone 8, came with a development kit called DesignSpark, which let Windows Phone 7 users create and compile applications in the Visual Studio for Windows Phone 7 environment. After Microsoft released the Windows Phone SDK for Windows Phone 8, which allowed developers to use Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, 3D Mobile and other frameworks on Windows Phone 8.

Add VirtualDirectory to ASP.NET application
I have an ASP.NET web application. I have two sites within this application which are using different applications. One of these sites uses a custom ASP.NET MVC application (the other site is an ASP.NET web application).
I would like to add a virtual directory so that I can route the “dashboard” site which is the ASP.NET application into the application’s URL and then into the custom ASP.NET MVC application.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
in ASP.NET the name of the page is the root of the application by default. When the user tries to access the site, they will get a “localhost” page that is mapped to the root of your application (it is hidden behind the “localhost” but in the end the only difference is what page they get).
Instead you should use a sub directory of the ASP.NET application for this site.
Something like “/site”
The reason you get a “localhost” page when you run your ASP.NET application is because the URL of the site and page are the same. If you want to have multiple sites in your web app all in one application, you need to break up the URL to something like
This is pretty easily done with a VirtualDirectory.
New model library and parameter management:
Manage models and parameters in a way that makes the most sense for you: Save and share objects, tags, and parameters with drawings, or group and manage them all at once. Use the drawing tag finder to search the Autodesk® brand cloud for a drawing’s model.
CAD Model Upload:
Now you can send CAD models from the browser to your favorite cloud-based platform.
Improved geospatial functionality:
Create, measure, and annotate map objects using the built-in map technology. Make your map as complex as you want it to be.
AutoCAD 2019 software is now available for Windows 7/8/10, macOS Catalina, and Linux. If you’re interested in purchasing a subscription to the AutoCAD Platform, take a look at our Autodesk for Schools, Government and Enterprise subscriptions.

New Features in AutoCAD 2020
Markup Import and Markup Assist:
Add, accept, or reject feedback on your drawings, in a snap. Import feedback from printed paper or PDFs and add changes to your drawings automatically, without additional drawing steps. (video: 1:15 min.)
Improvements to the way content is managed and shared:
Quickly save and share content across drawings, models, and drawings. Save and share just the right components of your models or drawings using tag-based organization. (video: 1:45 min.)
Streamline parameter storage for your drawing runs:
Use the new drawing parameter server to store all your project and drawing parameter settings and easily modify them for a given job. No more using a separate file or drawing run. (video: 1:28 min.)
Keep the layers in your drawing synchronized:
Edit, update, or delete layers in other drawings without losing the changes in your current drawing. (video: 1:30 min.)
New features for the tag finder:
The new drawing tag finder helps you find and share your objects with anyone. Look for tags on your objects to find and save the objects you use all the time.
Improved geospatial functionality:
Create, measure, and annotate map objects using the built-in
