Placed at No. 3 in the list of best free graphic editors in our 2012 Editors’ Choice awards, PhotoShelter Editor’s Choice 2012 roundup, the latest version of Photoshop CC is a fully-featured photo editor that provides the skillset you need to create images with absolute precision.
Adobe Photoshop CC has been in production for about two years and is currently available for Windows, Mac and the Web ( The program consists of about 150 individual tasks, or “actions,” that work together to perform a variety of functions. These individual tools, such as Adjustment Layers and Object Layers, can be used together to create more complex edits.
Because of Photoshop’s deep feature set, it’s easy to mislabel a tool with an action name. This is an issue for both beginners and more experienced users trying to use the program. As a result, Photoshop has an interface and icon guide to help users understand the different actions available in the program.
We will examine both the interface and icon guide as well as the extensive number of actions available. While the interface guide will help with many of the troubles that beginners may experience, the Action menu is where true users of the program find the action they need to perform a specific function. This guide will help you fully understand how to get the most out of Photoshop CC’s features.
The one place you will spend the majority of your time in Photoshop is in the main workspace screen. This feature is the backdrop for the menus that enable you to perform the various actions in the tool, or perform common tasks such as copying, moving and replacing objects.
The main workspace is designed to be a single window, but the screen can be split to show two side-by-side windows. This feature is found in the main menu under Window > Arrange. The other window in a split screen remains the same size as the main window. If you double-click the window tab to the right, a menu appears in the top-left corner of your screen (Figure A). Click Window > Arrange (Figure B) to return to the main view, and you can flip the split window back and forth on either side of the main screen. Figure C shows the split screen with a full-screen image that is 800 pixels wide. Notice that even the menu that appears in the bottom-left corner can be flipped back and forth.
You can use the View menu to change

Hajiki (or in Japanese, 話ごき; ) is the Japanese word for “chit-chat” or “chat”. This is a word that usually is used to describe the casual conversation with a company employee, or to someone who is doing the same job, at a business meeting, etc.
The term “chit-chat” comes from Western sources. The origin of the word “chit-chat” is the term “chat”, which was used in English to describe conversations between women. In English, the original form of “chit-chat” was “chatchet”, which derives from the Latin “catenatio” and is a shortened form of “catena”, which is a chain of interlinked clauses, e.g., “When you go out and get lost in the conversation, your tongue will grow endless, a catena of short, detached speeches.”
In English, “chit” came from the Dutch word “chit”, meaning “bullet”, “projectile”, “projected ball”, or “slap”. This later became a verb meaning “to slap” or “to hit” or “to strike”.
In Old English, “chat” was the name of a short, sharp, pointed stick, which was used to hunt. In Northern English, “chat” was a long, thin, sharp knife, used for skinning animals.
“Chat”, as the name of a small, sharp knife, and “chat” as an abbreviation of “chit-chat”, entered English as a borrowed word from Middle Dutch, meaning “short, sharp knife” or “short, sharp, pointed stick”. The word “chat” became “chit” when borrowed into English from Middle Dutch.
In Japanese, “chit-chat” is called hajiki (, hajiki no uchi). In Japanese, “chat-chat” (, chítōchítō) is the milder “chit-chat” for intimate conversation, often spoken among close friends and family, like the English “chit-chat”.
Bathhouses have names of hajiki, including. In restaurants, hajiki is called kōchiso (“lunchbox”) for small meals; one-bowl bowls of soup are called. The term is rarely used for
